Lawn Care Tips:
Crabgrass- Apply a crabgrass preventer early in the season. Do not over water, too much rain or watering will breakdown the crabgrass barrier too soon. Maintain turf fertility, the thicker the grass the harder it is for crabgrass to establish itself. Proper mowing technique, the shorter you mow the grass, there is a greater chance crabgrass will invade your lawn.
Mowing- Proper mowing height is very important. Do not mow the lawn short (bluegrass 2.75 to 3 inches and turf fescue 3 to 3.5 inches). Removing 1/3 of the blade each mowing is optimal. Sharpen your mower blades during the season. Vary your mowing pattern each time you mow. Certain times of the year you may have to mow more than once a week. Mulching the clippings helps keep the lawn fertility at its highest.
Watering- Your lawn needs 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week. It is best to water early morning. During dry periods it is best to water 2 to 3 times a week.
